Description

The Shrubbery is a 17th-century house located on Ash New Street. It features painted brick and a roof clad in corrugated iron, which covers thatch. The building has a two-bay lobby entry plan and is one storey with a garret, set on a plinth, and includes a central stack. To the right of the central porch, there is one wooden casement window, and to the left, a 20th-century half-glazed porch. The porch has a kneelered gable with blocked oval niches. On the right side of the building, there are now 19th-century wooden casement windows on each floor, but remnants of a plat band and a raised window surround can be seen on the first floor. Inside, the house features inglenook fireplaces and heavy ceiling joists.
