Description
Hills Downe is a house that dates from the late 17th century and was remodeled in the 18th century. It is constructed of red brick in English bond on the side elevations, while the rear wing is rendered and weatherboarded, topped with plain tiled roofs. The building has two storeys and a garret, featuring a moulded brick eaves cornice beneath a half-hipped roof, with stacks located at the rear left and rear right.
The front of the house has a regular arrangement of windows, with three glazing bar sashes on the first floor and two on the ground floor, all with gauged heads. The central entrance door consists of six raised and fielded panels, topped by a rectangular fanlight and framed by an open pediment on a pilaster surround. Access to the door is via a flight of six steps, which are adorned with swept iron rails on plain balusters.
