Description
This barn, located about 50 metres east of Malmains Farmhouse, dates from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of red brick in English bond and features a timber-framed interior structure with an asbestos-clad roof. The barn has an L-shaped plan and is built in two sections. It has half-hipped roofs with a raking mid stry, and the walls include ventilation slits and a plinth.
Inside, the main barn consists of six bays, with aisles and passing shores supporting the arcade posts. It has a clasped purlin roof, and the reveals of the ventilation slits have triangular heads. There is also a subsidiary barn, which is built with lesser scantling and poorer timber, containing 3½ bays while still featuring passing shores and a clasped purlin roof.
