Description
This barn, located about 50 metres east of Manor Farmhouse, dates from the early 18th century and may incorporate earlier timbers. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a tall Flemish bond red brick plinth, topped with a thatched roof that has half-hipped gable ends and midstreys. The barn has a large six-bay layout, with an aisle and two midstreys on the west side. The symmetrical west front includes two half-nipped midstreys with plank double doors. There is only one cart entrance at the rear, with the other entrance blocked. Inside, the barn showcases jowled wall and arcade-posts with curved braces supporting the tie-beams, queen-posts leading to high collars, and two tiers of clasped purlins, the lower ones being clasped by interrupted collars. The principal and common rafters are intact, with ties from the arcade posts to the wall-plate of the aisle and short braces from the arcade-posts to the arcade-plate. The walls feature long straight braces but lack a midrail.
