Description

The Church of All Saints is a Grade I listed building located in Kingsclere, with origins dating back to the 12th century. It features an aisleless nave and chancel of Saxon origin, with the nave primarily in the Norman style. The chancel was rebuilt in the 15th century, and a south aisle with two bays was added before 1200. In the 19th century, the nave and aisle were extended to three bays, and a north porch and bell turret were introduced.

The church has a tiled roof that extends to low eaves over the aisle, and the bell turret consists of three stages with a broach spire atop curving side walls and a rectangular base, all covered in shingles. The walls are constructed of flint with some stone additions and stone dressings. Notably, the northeast corner of the nave displays long and short work from the earliest period. There are buttresses on the south side and a tall buttress at the center of the west gable, with a moulded string linking the Victorian lancets around the west end.

The chancel windows are single lights with five cusps set within rectangular hoodmoulds, with the east and south windows of the south aisle dating to the 14th century, while the others are from the 19th century, including a Geometrical east window. Inside, there is a piscina in the east wall, a south side squinch, scalloped caps, and cylindrical columns, with arches from around 1300. The church also features a Jacobean pulpit, the baluster stem of a classical font (with the current font being Victorian), and two examples of modern glazing.
