Description
This is a barn located 30 yards northwest of Pontus Farmhouse, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. It is constructed with a timber frame and clad in weatherboard, topped with a plain tile roof. The barn is oriented with its right side projecting forward.
Inside, the barn features an aisled design with nine bays. The right section has four bays, which are from the 16th century or earlier and originally had only one aisle to the northwest, with the second aisle added in the 17th century. It includes passing shores to the arcade posts, close-studded walls, arched braces to the tie-beams, and wind braces in the partially renewed side purlin roof. The left section consists of five bays from the 17th century, lacking shores and featuring wavy braces. It has a clasped purlin roof, and the timber used is generally of lesser scantling.
