MERSHAM HINXHILL ROAD (South Side) Sheds, about 50 metres south-east of Quarrington

GV II

Shelter shed range with attached privy. Late C18/early C19, altered. Rear wall of red brick in English bond with galleting; returns of galleted rubblestone with brick quoins (south-west corner rebuilt); front, part open and part with replacement vertical boarding and corrugated iron; hipped plain tile roof. Long single-storey range forming north-east side of farmyard. Yard elevation: knobbed rustic wooden posts; range originally open at centre and weatherboarded at ends, now having boarding at left end, corrugated iron at right end; C20 board doors, some with reused strap hinges; C20-wood-framed windows. Rear wall has plinth. Attached to right end is weatherboard privy having strap-hinged board door with vent holes and wooden latch, corrugated iron roof, and, inside, wooden seat. Interior of shed range: mortices in soffits of front wall plate and tie-beams indicate position of former boarded walls; tie-beams fixed to rear wall by iron straps; some timbers reused; collared principal rafter roof trusses with through purlins, plank ridge piece on yokes, yokes and collars nailed in place.
