Description

Heronden is an early 19th century house of a square plan, located on the west side of Smallhythe Road. A service wing was added to the south side later. The house is constructed of white brick, with a cornice and parapet, and a stone stringcourse. It has five windows facing east and three facing north. The central bay projects slightly and is topped with a small pediment set into the parapet, with arcaded windows. French windows are present on the ground floor, and the original glazing bars remain largely intact. The entrance features a large double doorcase with narrow lights and a segmental fanlight above. The door itself is an 8-panelled, moulded design, set within a stone porch supported by Tuscan columns. A plinth is also present. The service wing, comprising three bays, has a slate roof and includes a round-headed window. The interior includes a fine contemporary staircase and fireplace.
