Description

Hatfield House and Hatfield Lodge are two houses located on High Street in Chilham. Hatfield House, on the left, dates from the late 17th century and is constructed of painted brick with a plain tile roof. It has two storeys and an attic, featuring a plinth, a plat band, and a shallow wooden eaves cornice. The house includes three gabled dormers and a gable on the left side with an end stack. The front has three regular windows, which are 19th-century sashes with gauged heads. The central door consists of six fielded panels and has a rectangular three-light fanlight above, with a flat hood supported by brackets.

Hatfield Lodge, which projects as a cross wing to the right of Hatfield House, is from the 16th century. It has a timber frame, with the ground floor clad in white brick and exposed close-studding on the first floor, topped with a plain tile roof. The roof is hipped to the right and features a large gable dormer on the right side facade. There is a large ridge stack on the right side. The lodge includes a two-storey segmental bay window with wooden casements and two blocked mullioned windows in the first-floor framing. To the right, there is a door with six fielded panels in a moulded surround, also topped with a flat hood on brackets.
