Description
The Vicarage is a vicarage built in 1746 for Reverend Dr. Knatchbull and James Colebrook of Chilham Castle. It is constructed of red brick with stone mouldings, a wooden cornice, and a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and an attic above a basement, which is highlighted by a plinth. The hipped roof features a bracketed eaves cornice and two segment-headed dormers, with chimney stacks on both the left and right sides.
There are five windows in total; on each floor, there are four glazing bar sashes set in gauged segment-headed openings. On the first floor, two of these windows are located on either side of a central Venetian window framed in ashlar. On the ground floor, two windows are positioned on either side of a central panelled and glazed door, which is set in a stone surround and topped with a triangular pediment supported by brackets. A 19th-century service wing is attached to the rear of the building.
Inside, the Vicarage retains original wall panelling, chimney pieces, and a mid-18th-century staircase.
