Description
The Headbourne Worthy War Memorial is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Swithun, which is a Grade I listed building. The memorial features a tall stone cross that rises from a moulded collar on a tapering octagonal shaft. This shaft is set on a small octagonal pedestal, which in turn rests on a larger octagonal plinth. Four stone blocks extend from alternate faces of the pedestal.
The pedestal bears incised inscriptions. The main dedication reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN SACRED MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE WARS 1914 – 1918 AND 1939 – 1945 THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." The names of the fallen, along with their battalion and the details and date of their death, are recorded on the other faces of the pedestal.
