Description

Laundry Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, which was restored in 1983. The building features a timber frame that has been encased and replaced by cob, flint, and brick, topped with a thatched roof. It is positioned end-on to the road and consists of three bays, with one storey and an attic. The central bay retains its timber frame encased in brick, while the road end has an 18th-century planked door in a solid frame with a baffle entry. The road end bay is constructed of brick with flint panels, and the far end is made of cob. Each bay contains an irregular two-light casement window, and above these, there are two-light casements in eyebrow dormers with tiled trays below. The roof is hipped, featuring an 18th-century chimney stack above the door. Inside, except for the road bay, the building is open to the collar of the queen post and clasped purlin roof. The internal chimney is large and includes a bread oven and remnants of a smoke hood. Behind the house, there is a 19th-century laundry building that is linked to the cottage by a 20th-century extension.
