Description
Marwell Manor Farmhouse is a Grade II listed farmhouse, now a private house, that underwent mid-19th century rebuilding of a 16th-century farmhouse, utilizing materials from a 14th-century abbey grange. The structure features coursed flint with stone quoins and brick dressings and additions, topped with a plain tile roof. Originally L-shaped, a wing was added in the 18th century to create a U-shape, and the area between the wings was filled in during the 19th century to form the current entrance front. There is also an 18th-century service wing behind the 16th-century building that connects it to the barn.
The front of the farmhouse is two stories high, with two central 19th-century bays. To the right, there is a slightly projecting 18th-century gable end, and to the left, a 16th-century gable end that projects forward by half a bay. The entrance features a doorway set in a 19th-century steep pitched gabled porch with a three-centred archway and an inside ledged door. To the left of the entrance, there is a three-light casement window in a chamfered brick surround with a hood, along with similar one and two-light casements above. To the right, on an intermediate level, there is a similarly detailed cross window. The right gable end has a brick stack and a 19th-century canted stone full-height bay on the outer side.
