Description
Marwell House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, which was refronted and extended in the 18th century. It features a timber frame encased in brickwork and has an old plain tile roof. The original building consists of three bays from the 16th century, with a parallel range added to the rear in the 18th century. An early 18th-century single-storey shed was added to the left end, along with 18th-century outbuildings to the right.
The front of the farmhouse is two storeys high and has three bays, with the left half of the wall rebuilt in the 20th century. There is a blocked doorway at the inner end of the right bay, and a 20th-century three-light casement window on each floor, with the ground floor window featuring a cambered head. To the left, there is a wide stack on a blank wall, beyond which are two 20th-century sash windows on each floor. The roof is half-hipped, with an L-shaped ridge stack to the left of centre and an external stack at the left end. Above the centre bay, there is a 20th-century gabled dormer with a two-light casement window. Inside, the centre bay features a carved beam with an ovolo profile and cavettoes on each side, and much of the timber frame is exposed.
