Description

Elm Farmhouse is a building of group value, dating to 1719, with a timber-frame core that is thought to be from the 17th century. The farmhouse was refronted in 1719. It is constructed of brick, partly on a flint plinth, and is colourwashed, with a plain tile roof. The building is two storeys high and has an outshot of four bays to the rear. A door leads to a screens passage in the bay to the left of centre, with a 20th-century door set within a segmental-headed solid frame, which is protected by a wide, pent-roofed porch. A segmental-headed cellar window is located in the left bay. A right bay was added later in brick. Each bay contains 19th-century, wide, four-pane segmental-head sash windows, with a four-pane sash window above and a small light above the door. The roof has end stacks, with the stack to the left located externally. Inside, there are exposed stud walls and heavy timber floors.
