Description

The Farmhouse is a Grade II listed farmhouse that dates back to the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 17th century, late 18th century, and mid-19th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and brick, featuring some ashlar dressings and slate roofs. The building has a large late 17th century brick ridge stack with three combined octagonal shafts, as well as an 18th century brick stack at the west end.

The original structure is T-shaped, with the hall section aligned north to south and a cross-wing at the south end, which includes a large central chimney that forms a lobby. An addition was made to the northeast in the late 17th century, and in the 18th century, a two-bay extension was added to the west end of the cross-wing. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a cellar.

The south front features two plus three bays, with all windows having rusticated lintels. The original three-bay section has 3-light multi-paned metal casements with transoms on both floors of the outer bays, while the central first-floor window is boarded up. The central entrance has a ledged and battened door. The two-bay addition includes a 12-pane ground floor sash window, along with a 9-pane and a 6-pane first floor sash window. The main entrance, located in the second bay, features an 18th century doorcase with an entablature and pilastered surround, flush-panelled reveals, a door with six flush panels, and a transom light with three glazing bars. There is also a lean-to addition with a 2-light casement at the east end.

Inside, the farmhouse is noted for having some exposed ceiling beams and back-to-back fireplaces in the original section.
