Description

Greenaway Cottage is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. It is timber-framed, featuring rendered brick and lath and plaster infill on a rubble base, topped with a slate roof. The cottage consists of two framed bays aligned from northwest to southeast. There is an external rendered chimney at the northwest end, which includes a circular rubble bread oven on the northeast side and a rebuilt detached brick stack. The building is a single storey with an attic.

The framing includes three rows of square panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners; the trusses are not visible from the outside.

On the southwest front elevation, there are two ground floor windows: one has a 2-light casement with plank weathering, while the other features replacement plate glass. The entrance is located in the southeast bay and consists of a half-glazed door with plank weathering. There are attic lights in the gable ends, and the main entrance is also found at the northwest end, featuring a ledged and battened door with plank weathering. At the rear, there is a continuous lean-to outshut that returns to form a small lean-to at the northwest end, enclosing the bread oven and part of the chimney base.
