Description

These are a row of unusual double-fronted houses built in the early 19th century, numbers 4 to 8 Eastgate Street. Each house has two curved bays, and the row is two storeys high with an attic. Each house has three windows. The facades are stuccoed and feature a small balcony on the first floor between the curves. A cornice sits above, topped by a balustraded parapet. A tall central dormer window lights the attic. The windows are casement types with divisions to resemble the appearance of sash windows. The front doors are four-panelled, with rectangular windows above. The roofs are slate. The visually distinctive curved frontage is an important architectural feature. Numbers 1 to 27, as a group, contribute to the area’s character.
