Description
The God Begot House, located at 1833 High Street, is a substantially restored 16th-century building that originally occupied the entire island site now divided into two separate buildings. The sides and north front remain largely in their original condition, with plaster infilling the timber framework. The High Street frontage has been restored, displaying timber framing across one half of the total facade and featuring two over-sailing gables projecting from 3-storey bays. Modern shop fronts are present, with modern diamond lattice casement windows above. The roof is tiled. The east wing was completely rebuilt externally in 1960, although significant internal timbering remains.
