Description

The Market House is a timber-framed and plastered building, likely originating in the 16th century. It features cross wings at both the north and south ends, but underwent alterations in the 17th century when the central section was expanded to create a prominent three-gabled front. Further modifications occurred in the 13th and 19th centuries, with renovations completed in 1974-75. The roof is tiled, and the building stands two storeys high with cellars. The upper storey has a three-window range of 18th-century double-hung sashes with glazing bars, while the ground storey includes two 19th-century splayed bays and a shop front with segmental arched lights.
