Description
Nos 8 and 9 in Lavenham Market Place were formerly the Red Lion Inn. This building originally dates from the 15th century and features a timber-framed and plastered structure with cross wings at the north-east and south-west ends. It underwent significant alterations in the 18th century when it was refronted in red brick, the central part was built out, and the roofs of the cross wings and the central block were hipped back. The building has two storeys and cellars, with a four-window range consisting mainly of bar and transom three-light casements that have leaded lights and segmental heads. The ground storey includes a double-bayed shop front with two central six-panel doors beneath a cornice. The windows feature glazing bars, with one window having small panes, and there is also one double-hung sash window with vertical glazing bars.
