Description
No. 43 High Street is a building dating from the 16th to 17th century. It stands three storeys tall and features a timber frame that is plastered. The building has 18th-century windows that are irregularly placed, including a two-storey bow window on the first and second floors. The structure partly oversails and has a modern shop front. The sash windows are fitted with glazing bars, and it has an old tiled roof. Inside, the first-floor room contains wall paintings, a Tudor fireplace, and 17th-century panelling. There are also some remains of the Norman Palace wall on the ground floor. No. 43 is part of a group that includes the Old Market House, the Butter Cross, and Nos 25 to 50 on the same street.
