Description

The Sparsholt War Memorial, dating from after the First World War, is located in a grassed area to the north-east of the churchyard, opposite the Memorial Hall. It is an unusual memorial consisting of a plain oak cross raised upon an octagonal brick base. A stone collar encircles the foot of the cross, and the base is topped with a stone coping. The base sits upon two brick steps. The names of the commemorated servicemen are carved onto a stone plaque on the front of the base and also on the coping stones. Inscribed on the stone coping facing the cross is "IN/ REMEMBRANCE/ 1914 – 1918" while the back is inscribed "SEEING THAT WE ARE/ COMPASSED ABOUT BY/ SO GREAT A CLOUD OF/ WITNESSES LET US RUN/ WITH PATIENCE THE RACE/ THAT IS SET BEFORE US."
