Description
Cranley is a house dating from the 18th century, with later additions from the 19th century. It is constructed of brick and features a tile roof. The symmetrical front, facing east, consists of two storeys and an attic, with three windows. There is a single-storey extension added later on the north side. The house has a 20th-century flat-roofed dormer and a moulded eaves fascia board. The red brick walls are laid in Flemish garden wall bond and show some altered openings. The windows are sashes in exposed frames, with the upper middle window being a painted panel. The doorcase features a pediment and frieze that projects forward above simple scroll brackets, with pilasters, panelled reveals, and a six-panelled door.
On the north side, there is a gable in the Tudor style, featuring a half-timbered frame with roughcast filling above red brick walling in Flemish bond. This side includes a flush yellow band at transom level, a high plinth, and deeply chamfered reveals around a large opening that has a projecting battered base. There is also an 8-light mullion and transom window capped with tiles. The north side concludes with a buttress that also serves as a gatepost.
