Description
Greenways is a range of cottages that originated in the 16th century, primarily developed in the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of brick and thatch, featuring one storey and an attic, with a total of eight bays, including outshot end bays. The prominent roof has eaves raised above the upper windows, and at each end, it is brought to a lower eaves above wings that extend forward; the east end is half-hipped, and there are inset dormers at the rear. The main section has walls of red brick in Flemish bond set on a flint base, with cambered openings on the ground floor. The east wing is rendered, while the west wing has painted brickwork. The windows are casements. There is one front doorway, dating from around 1900, which features a moulded canopy on brackets, modeled after the one at Pear Tree Cottage. Historical photographs indicate that there were once three doors on the front, though not in the current door's position. Inside, the division of the central part into three bays and a massive chimney between two of them, along with old floor beams, suggests that the building originally had a timber-framed structure.
