Description
This building is a barn and stable located 20 yards south-east of Forton Farmhouse, dating from the 18th century, with early and late 20th-century restorations. The barn is a timber-framed structure with eight bays and aisles, except for the north-west gable. It features two wagon entrances, a Queen post truss, boarded walls, and an end hipped roof that is now covered with coloured pantiles. A low wing connects to the stable, which has been converted into a workshop. The stable is also timber-framed, consisting of five bays with one end-aisle, and has a vertical wall frame with herring-bone nogging made of brick and flint. Its roof is thatched and brought to a low eaves above the aisle.
