Description
Great Bentley Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a private residence. It originated in the 16th century and was enlarged in the 18th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame with 16th-century brick infill, along with later brick refronting and additions. It has two bays, is two stories high with an attic, and was refronted in the 19th century.
At the rear of the right bay, there is a two-story, four-bay early 18th-century range with a lean-to on the right end. A 20th-century three-panel door is located in the lean-to. The building includes 20th-century three-light casement or French doors, which are set under original rubbed brick arches, with two-light casements above in the 18th-century wing. There is a central stack and an external stack at the right end. The 16th-century section has exposed main posts. Each bay features a 20th-century four-light casement with a three-light casement above, and there is a small stairlight to the right of the center. The roof is half-hipped, with a stack located behind the ridge in the center. The ends of the building display exposed framing and infill.
