Description
Oaklands Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse, largely re-faced in brick during the late 17th century, with a 19th-century extension. It has a timber-frame core originally with wattle and daub infill, now encased in brick, and features an old plain tile roof. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with eaves raised in the late 17th century, and consists of three bays and a smoke bay, along with an 18th-century dairy at the right-hand end. A two-pile 19th-century extension is set at right angles to the left half, and a late 19th-century addition extends to the rear on the right. The front elevation has a 20th-century door in the right-hand side of the left bay, and a smoke bay with a two-light casement, incorporating a lower sill for hatches. Similar windows are found in the other bays, all with segmental arches. A raised brick band is visible on the first floor, broken in the smoke bay. Brick piers flank the front. The first floor has a three-light casement in each bay, with a small light in the smoke bay. Stacks are located above the smoke bay and at each end of the building. The interior retains significant timber framing, including preserved wattle and daub panels and some 17th-century panelling.
