Description

The Smithy is an 18th-century smithy, altered in the 19th century. It is constructed of brick with a weatherboarded gable and an old plain tile roof. The building has a single bay and two storeys and sits end-on to the road, with projecting sections extending on both sides. A hipped roof covers the projecting section at the road end of the left half. The projecting section contains a two-light window and a door. The gable of the main part of the building is exposed and weatherboarded. A wall runs from the right corner of the projecting section to the right corner of the main building. A forge stack is located on the left side, at the junction with the projecting section. Next to it is a two-light casement window and a small boarded opening. The far gable has been rebuilt. The Smithy, along with Letterbox Cottage, forms part of the landscape features associated with the now-demolished East Tytherley Manor.
