Description
Penton Lodge is a country mansion built in the early 19th century by William Cubitt, with additions made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of stucco and features a hipped slate roof. It has a classical design characterized by a symmetrical front facing south, comprising a three-storey central section flanked by two-storey wings, arranged in a 2:1.2.1:2 window pattern. Notable architectural details include eaves moulding, architraves around the windows, and a plinth. The central section has two large mid-19th century splayed bays. The windows are Victorian sashes set in reveals, and there are French windows in the east wing's centre, which was formerly the entrance, as well as in the middle light of the bays. The west wing, which serves as the entrance, has a symmetrical elevation with three windows arranged 1.1.1, featuring a pediment-gable over the slightly projecting centre. This section also includes a first-floor central Venetian window with a simple order and a large Tuscan porch supported by four outer square columns and two pilasters, leading to a wide half-glazed doorway. A balustrade projects forward from the porch and extends along the front of the building.
