Description

Broughton Mill and Mill Cottage are an 18th and early 19th century mill and attached cottage situated on Broughton Horsebridge Road. The mill is primarily brick construction with some weatherboarding, while the cottage is of chequerwork brick. Both structures have old plain and fishscale tile roofs.

The mill is two storeys and three bays. The right bay extends over the millstream and has a bridge in front. The first floor of this bay is weatherboarded and features a door. The central bay is blank. The left bay has a stable door set within a solid segmental head frame, and a 12-pane sash window with a segmental head. Above the stable door is a solid frame.

The cottage is one-and-a-half storeys and two bays. It features a central, open-fronted gabled brick porch. An interior four-panel door provides access. To the right of the porch is a three-light casement window, and to the left, a two-light casement window with a segmental head. A first-floor string course runs along the cottage's elevation. Dormer windows with pent roofs are present in each bay. The roof is half-hipped on the left side, with a shared stack between the mill and cottage.
