Description
Kimpton Manor Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century and early 19th century. It features brick walls, with the front rendered, and a tiled roof. The front (east) side is two storeys high, with four windows above five. The original timber frame is visible in the upper part, which has a jettied first floor supported by wide pilasters at each end. The plain rendered wall includes a chamfered soffit at first floor level and a plinth. The windows are Victorian sashes set in reveals. The stucco doorcase has a thin architrave within a wider frame that has edge moulding and a convex centre, along with a plain fanlight and a six-panelled door. The south gable is made of 16th-century red brickwork arranged in a chequer pattern of plaster squares, mostly covering flint panels, and features a central stepped buttress. The north gable is rendered and has a large brick stack made of blue headers with red quoins and one large offset. The early 19th-century rear extensions are built of brickwork in Flemish bond, with dentilled eaves, some cambered openings, sashes and casements, and plain boarded doors; two outshots have slate roofs. Inside, the hall has dado panelling and an 18th-century staircase, along with two stone Tudor fireplaces.
