Description
Rookery Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 16th century, with elements from the 17th and late 18th centuries. It features brick and stone walls topped with a tile roof. The building has a late medieval timber-framed structure, including a fireplace, an upper floor, and a wing from the 17th century, which was reclad in the 18th century. The house has two storeys, with the front (east) side displaying a mix of 1.3 and 1.1 windows. The roof is hipped and higher on the west side, meeting a lower roof where a shafted stack emerges; the east end has a steep half-hip. The walls are constructed in Flemish bond and include a first-floor band and a cemented plinth. There is one small rectangular bay window on the west side, and a gabled brick porch from the 19th century. The south elevation features irregular window placements and brick walls in Flemish bond. At the rear, the two wings have ironstone walls with brick quoins and plinths; the north wing includes a single-storey boarded outshot, while the south wing has a first-floor extension on posts with tile-hanging. The windows are casements, and there are plain doorways. Inside, parts of the original walls reveal heavy framing with wattle panels finished in plaster, painted red. The massive chimney breast is visible from two directions, and the front door leads into a lobby entrance.
