Description
Bakers Corner Cottages are two cottages built in the 18th century, constructed in one block. The walls are made of stone and brick, topped with a tile roof. The original structure is a north/south block facing east, with wings extending west at each end; the northern wing is taller and longer, functioning as a separate dwelling, while the southern wing is lower. The east elevation features two storeys and two and a half windows. It has a plain roof with a shafted stack, and the higher north-side gable is mostly tile-hung with scalloped bands. The walls are built in English bond, with a plinth, while the north gable and the adjoining wall of the other part are made of coursed chalkstone with brick quoins. The windows are casements, and there is a plain boarded door. The long north elevation has four windows, with the first floor being tile-hung and the ground floor made of stone, also featuring casements and a plain door. The west end has a short 20th-century extension that matches the style. The other elevations have few features and are constructed in English bond, with the exposed rear wall of the main part being tile-hung.
