Description

York Farmhouse is a house dating back to the 16th century, with additions from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It is timber-framed, but the exterior walls were re-faced with red and blue brick in the 19th century. The east wall has been rendered on the first floor and at the north gable end of the main block. The roof is tiled. The east front has end stacks (chimneys) on either side of the main block, with the right-hand stack projecting and encased in a 19th-century extension. The front has two windows on the main block, with casement windows on the first floor and a glazing-bar sash window to the left and a polygonal bay window on the ground floor to the right. A one-window extension is on the right-hand side. A central, half-glazed door is set within a wooden 19th-century porch. The rear elevation is irregular, including a 17th-century wing behind the main block and a two-story 19th-century wing to the left. Inside, the original timber frame is substantial, with heavy posts and braces. Moulded beams are present within the main block, and the roof features side-purlin rafters with collars.
