Description

Shorts Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse that has been altered and extended in the 18th and 20th centuries. It has a timber-frame core, likely encased in brick, with brick or cob additions, all treated with a pebbledash finish, and a thatched roof. The original building comprised three bays, with a smoke or passage bay added to one end. Hip-bays were added to each end of the building, along with a 20th-century lean-to on one side. The front elevation has, to the right of centre, a smoke/passage bay containing a planked door within a slightly projecting wall, set beneath a thatched hood. To the left of centre is a three-light casement window, with two-light casements in the other bays. Above the windows is a 2-light casement within an eyebrow dormer. The roof is half-hipped.
