Description
Nos 1-3 on Winchester Street is a row of cottages with a core dating back to the 17th century, which has been encased in 18th-century brickwork. The building features a timber-frame core, with the brickwork displaying both chequerwork and header bond patterns, topped with an old plain tile roof. It is two stories high and has three bays, along with a smoke bay. At the right of the center in the smoke bay, there is a planked door set in a solid frame with a cambered opening. The right bay contains a two-light casement window, while the other bays have three-light casements, all featuring camber heads. Between the left bays, there is a tall 20th-century window. A blue header band runs along the first floor, except in the chequerwork left bay, which has two and three-light casements. The building is finished with a dentilled cornice and a half-hipped roof, which has a large stack above the door and another stack above the front wall near the left end. Additionally, there are three later half-hipped single bay wings made of flint added to the rear.
