Description

The Old Butchers Arms is a cottage, formerly a public house, dating back to the 17th century, with later additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed with a timber frame and colourwashed brick infill, with pebbledashed brick additions, and has a plain tile roof. The original building is a single-storey, three-bay 17th-century structure, positioned with its end facing the road. A parallel range was added to the side, and a later road-facing elevation was constructed. The road elevation features a cross-gabled roof and a wide canted bay window across the older range. The side elevation displays exposed timber framing, a 20th-century door with an overhanging hood in the centre bay, and a three-light casement window. A further two two-light casement windows are present in the far bay, alongside an external projecting stack in the far corner. The roof is half-hipped with three 20th-century flat-roofed dormers. Inside, much of the original timber frame remains exposed.
