Description
The Trout is a cottage with a shop, which was formerly an inn. It dates from the 18th century, with possibly an earlier core. The building is constructed of cob and flint, rendered, and features a thatched roof. It is 1½ storeys high and has three bays, with an added outshot bay to the right. There is a 19th-century top-lit door to the left of the center, situated in a gabled timber porch. Each bay contains a three-light casement window, with a smaller similar window in an eyebrow dormer above. The left outshot bay serves as a shop, built in brick, and has a 16-pane sash window and a planked door. The roof is hipped to the left, with a ridge stack positioned to the right of the outshot bay, a large stack above the door, and an external stack at the right end.
