Description

The building at 6 Church Street is an early 19th century property that has been altered. It is three storeys high and built of painted stucco, with an old tile roof and flat, bracketed eaves. A pilaster is present at the south end, while the north end shows a recessed area of similar width above ground floor level, containing a pointed arch with reveals below. On the second floor, there are two sash windows in reveals without glazing bars; a narrow band runs along the sill level. Narrow panels of flint are situated at either side, in the pilaster and the recess. The first floor has three narrow, pointed windows with a cusped glazing pattern to the heads, and drip moulds above. Flint panels with pointed heads are again present at either side, with small, flat wooden projections featuring scroll brackets positioned below. The ground floor incorporates a modern, segmental bow shop window of a contemporary style, with glazing bars, a stuccoed stall riser and flanked by panelled pilasters with narrow cut scroll brackets. A doorway is situated to the south, featuring a glazed door in reveals, also flanked by panelled pilasters with cut scroll brackets. A moulded cornice extends over both the shop window and the doorway. At the north end, a three-panel door with a pointed head is set within reveals, flanked by pilasters with a mid-19th century flat hood on scroll brackets. A small door, before a passageway to the north, is set within a tall, pointed arch in reveals. The building forms a group with Nos. 2 to 8 (even).
