Description
The Close is a mid-18th century house located on the east side of Broughton High Street. It is constructed of blue brick in a headed bond, with red brick dressings, and has an old plain tile roof. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. A 6-panel door is positioned to the left of the centre, set within a solid doorframe, with a radiating arched fanlight above. The doorcase features pilasters topped by console brackets supporting an open pediment. The left bay contains a full-height canted bay with a flat roof. This bay has a 12-pane sash window. The angled sides of the bay have 8-pane sashes. The central bay has a 2-light casement window, a 16-pane sash window that is not directly above the door, and the right bay features a single-storey canted bay with a flat roof and a 16-pane sash window to the front. A similar 16-pane sash window is at the first floor level of the right bay. The building has dentilled eaves, a hipped roof with a stack located at the right end, and a further stack on the return ridge to the left.
