Description
The Old Market House is a house dating from the 16th century, extended in the 18th century and altered in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill, some rebuilding and additions, and is partially weatherboarded, topped with an old plain tile roof. The building is 1 and a half storeys high and consists of three bays, with the end facing High Street and the left side facing Rectory Lane. The road end has a door in the corner of the left bay, which is an 18th-century planked door set in a solid frame and covered by a triangular hood. There is a bullseye window beside the door. On the end of the house, there is a long 19th-century 18-pane window to the left and a 10-pane window to the right. The gable features a 20th-century three-light window. The roof is half-hipped, with a stack on the left side of the road end bay and a large ridge stack at the far end. The weatherboarded store has double doors, a half-hipped roof, and a ridge stack.
