Description

This description refers to a finial located on a baluster pedestal in a sunken yew enclosure beside the northwest corner of Mottisfont Abbey. The finial dates from the 18th century and is made of lead, sitting atop a stone pedestal. The pedestal features a moulded stone baluster and is topped by a lead urn with foliated designs, which is further topped by a foliated finial. Originally, this finial was positioned on top of the northern wall, where there was a pair of similar finials, although ball finials are now present at the other end.
