Description

The Aldershot Cenotaph is a war memorial built in 1925, located within the landscaped area of the Municipal Gardens, surrounded by parterre planting and a fountain.

The monument is made of Cornish granite and features a large rectangular platform accessed by three steps on its south-eastern side. At the center, a pylon-shaped cenotaph rises from a plinth. The structure is enclosed by decorative metal bollards connected by a chain. On the front face of the pylon, there is a relief of a cross, and below it is a brass plaque that honors those who died in both world wars. The plaque reads: "BOROUGH OF ALDERSHOT / THIS MEMORIAL WAS ERECTED IN GRATEFUL MEMORY / TO THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY / IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919, / AND IN THE WORLD WAR 1939-1945." This plaque appears to have been replaced at a later date.
