Description
The Cavalry Brigade Veterinary Lines, specifically the East Ward North Stable Range, is a military veterinary stable built in 1865. It is constructed of English bond stock brick and features a Welsh slate roof with gabled ends. The building is a long rectangular single-storey range with 18 bays, set back behind a colonnade supported by thin cast-iron columns. The right-hand eight bays project forward but remain behind the colonnade. The stable has segmental-headed doorways with large cast-iron overlights that include glazing bars, along with plank doors. To the right, there are segmental-headed windows with cast-iron frames and glazing bars. The ends of the building have pedimental gables adorned with brick modillions and recessed panels, while similar panels and brick modillion eaves are present at the rear. Inside, there is a king-post roof structure, stall partitions, and cast-iron post supports and fittings. The Cavalry Brigade Veterinary Lines were constructed as part of the Cavalry Barracks at Aldershot, which were built between 1854 and 1859 following the Crimean War. The only remaining structures from that period are the 1854-9 Riding School and these Veterinary Lines.
