Description

The Cavalry Brigade Veterinary Lines, specifically the North Stable Range, is a military veterinary stable built in 1865. It is constructed from English bond stock brick and features a Welsh slate roof with gabled ends. This long, rectangular, single-storey building has 18 bays, with the front set back behind a colonnade of thin cast-iron columns. The right-hand eight bays project forward but remain behind the colonnade. The stable has segmental-headed doorways with large cast-iron overlights that include glazing bars and plank doors. To the right, there are segmental-headed windows with cast-iron frames and glazing bars. The ends of the building have pedimental gables adorned with brick modillions and three recessed panels. Similar recessed panels, brick modillion eaves, and small windows with flat brick arches can be found at the rear. Inside, the structure features a king-post truss roof and cast-iron fittings. The Cavalry Brigade Veterinary Lines were constructed at the Cavalry Barracks in Aldershot, which were built between 1854 and 1859 as a response to the Crimean War. The only remaining structures from that period are the Riding School and these Veterinary Lines.
