Description

The Former Guardroom to the Royal Pavilion, also known as The Lodge, is a disused guardroom built around 1855. It features a timber frame clad in weatherboard, with a brick ridge stack and a hipped roof that is now felted. The building has a rectangular three-room layout and is a single-storey structure with a three-bay range. The right of centre has a doorway with a four-panel door, flanked by windows with margin pane sashes. There is a central window in the right-hand return and a central doorway with a four-panel door in the left-hand return. The roof extends down to create a verandah supported by timber posts all around.

Inside, the guardroom consists of three ceiled rooms, with the left-hand two heated by a stove. This guardroom is historically significant as it is associated with the Royal Pavilion, which was located to the west and has since been demolished. It is the last surviving example of the type of temporary building that was used when Aldershot Camp was first established, and its royal connection adds to its considerable historic importance.
