Description

Anglesey House is a house that has been converted into offices, built around 1860. It is constructed of yellow stock brick with rubbed brick dressings, featuring two brick exterior stacks on each side and at the rear, topped by a slate hipped roof. The building has a double-depth plan.

The exterior consists of two storeys, an attic, and a basement, arranged in a three-bay symmetrical front. It has a plat band and an attic cill band beneath deep overhanging eaves supported by plain brackets. The openings are segmental-arched and made of rubbed brick. The front features two-storey canted bays with ground-floor French windows, first-floor six-over-six pane sashes, and four-over-four pane sashes on the sides. The tops of the bays create small balconies with cast-iron railings, leading to wide half-dormers with hipped roofs and paired six-over-six pane sashes. The left side of the entrance front has a central porch with a round-arched doorway and full-height double doors that have six sunken panels, along with a brickwork balustrade. To the right, there is an exterior stack, six-over-six pane sashes with narrow windows in between, and two hipped half-dormers, with the central one featuring two sashes. At the rear, there are two single-storey blocks with hipped roofs that extend back, each having four windows.

Inside, there is an entrance lobby leading to a central stair hall, which features a dogleg stair with stick balusters, a cast-iron newel, and a wreathed rail that curves to the landing.

Historically, this house was originally the residence of the Divisional Commander and is part of the first generation of permanent barracks established in Aldershot.
