Description

Rose Cottage and The Match Box are a pair of cottages and an attached shop, dating back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries, and a 20th-century shop addition. The cottages are timber-framed with brick infill, painted and have a thatch and plain tile roof. The added shop is of rendered brick with a pantile roof. The cottages are two storeys and five bays in length, with three smoke or passage bays. The right-hand cottage has a right-hand end smoke bay, followed by a passage bay, then another bay with a plank door set into the end of the next bay, which is part of the adjoining cottage. It has 20th-century windows with night vents in two bays. The left-hand cottage has the remainder of the shared bay, a bay, passage bay, and another bay. A plank door is set into the passage bay. There are two-light casements in the bays either side and on the first floor of the shared bay. The roof is hipped to the left. A large stack is located over the shared bay, and another stack is at the right-hand end of the right-hand cottage. A lean-to shop is attached to the left-hand end with a shop window.
