Description
The Studio, located 50 meters west-northwest of Fryern Court, is a building dating from 1932, designed by T Nicholson for Augustus John and converted into a house in 1970. It features painted brick and concrete construction with a flat asphalt roof, showcasing an International modern style. The building is two stories tall, with the main section being oblong and a single-story section at one end that includes a canopy linking the studio to the garage.
The main part has ground floor windows that are recessed between piers, with one corner supported by pillars. On the first floor, there is a horizontal strip window consisting of 10 lights on the main front, and a taller horizontal strip window at the end. The lower section at the opposite end is partly open and has a balcony on top. A spiral staircase rises around a corner column of the balcony and features a tall solid balustrade. Additionally, a window wraps around the projecting corner of the first floor behind the balcony, which has a plain metal railing.
